TMMS TEACHER OF THE WEEK (6) – QUESTIONNAIRE – LAURA CHIARAMONTE
TMMS: Please introduce yourself :
LC: My name is Laura Chiaramonte and I come from Italy. I have studied classical piano in Palermo at Conservatorio Vincenzo Bellini where I achieved my diploma MA and my degree in BA piano solo performance. I am very passionate about music and piano and during my career, I had the opportunity to work with music in very different ways playing on solo performances, with musicians, singers, choir and orchestra and of course teaching. In my career I was mentoring the students in my Conservatory, I had tough in private and public schools with adults and young students and students with disabilities.
As a musician:
As a classical musician, my education was very strict because technique and practising are important if you want to achieve a good result. Yes, I believe in the hard work, especially when you are preparing a performance, exam or competition. But I really like playing on solo and with other musicians for fun or for working. I think that sharing music it is a wonderful experience.
As a music teacher:
My teaching method is very personalized because every student is different and has different needs. For all levels from the beginner to the advanced is always important to motivate the student and let him/her enjoy the music. I love teaching because sharing my musical knowledge with others is very rewarding. I love teaching because every single day we can make a difference in someone’s life, make someone happy with the music. We inspire, support, mentor and get the chance to discover and share some of the best parts of ourselves as human beings.
TMMS: What is your favourite repertoire?
LC: My favourite repertoire is a classical piano, my favourites authors are Chopin, Debussy, Ravel, Scriabine, Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff. During my career, I had been studied the majority of the pieces of the piano classical repertoire from Bach to Stravinsky, because our programs on Conservatories are really wide. But I am also interested in contemporary music, piano ragtime, soundtracks, jazz and pop and musicals. I am very open-minded, as always I say to my students whatever pieces they want to play they can feel free to ask me.
TMMS: What are your dreams in music?
LC: I wish music could be my main job, and my project would be to make some more solo performances, and to have the possibility to play with an orchestra for classical music and musicals. I wish to increase my repertoire studying more with solo piano performances and with other musicians or singers. I wish to make more youtube videos about piano lessons too. And also, of course, keep teaching piano to all age students.
TMMS: What do you like about TMMS?
LC: For me teaching at TMMS is very rewarding, because I have the opportunity to be a part of a team of excellent musicians and I am feeling very honoured and proud to be part of it. It is a very good Music School in London and I am sure it will grow more in the future. TMMS is a very nice learning environment for all ages students.
TMMS: As a teacher, could you give any advice to people who study/or who would like to learn your instruments?
LC: Learning the piano can be tricky at the beginning, but it is very satisfactory in the end. Is the most complete instrument and it can be compared to a whole orchestra. From the young ages to the oldest learning piano could give some benefits in memory, concentration, stress relief, improvement in aural awareness. Is a beautiful instrument that can give you lots of emotions and happiness. Anyone can try at any age.
TMMS: What do you like about UK?
LC: Living and working in the UK is a great opportunity for your career especially in music. London is a great place to live and work. I think London is the city of the future. Is the world’s city, where is possible to meet people from all the countries, working with interdisciplinary and multicultural teams. The city offers lots of options in terms of job and education, several music Schools, theatres and orchestras. I really wish we had these opportunities in Italy one day!
I really recommend joining the TMMS music School if you would like to learn how to play and how to approach an instrument, learn some music theory, or give the opportunity to your kids to learn music with us. I am really glad I had the opportunity to be part of this Teachers team, and I consider this as an important step in my music career.
Thanks for this opportunity
