Sofia Panagiotopoulou

Bio

Sofia is a passionate and experienced piano and keyboard teacher with a unique interdisciplinary background that bridges music, education, and health sciences. She holds a degree in Classical Piano from the Philippos Nakas Conservatory in Athens, Greece, recognised by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, as well as an MMus in Composition for Film and TV from the University of West London — both awarded with distinction. In addition to her musical training, Sofia also holds a BSc in Physiotherapy from the University of West Attica, which enriches her teaching with a deep understanding of posture, movement, and muscle mechanics — helping students develop healthy and sustainable piano techniques.

Sofia began her musical journey at the age of four through the Yamaha Music School curriculum, initially focusing on double keyboard (Electone), before transitioning to classical piano at eight. After completing her classical piano studies in 2015, she explored pop and mainstream repertoire as a keyboardist, performing with various bands and collaborating with renowned Greek musicians in Athens. Her passion for experimental and contemporary music continues to influence both her teaching and creative work.

As a composer, Sofia has recently collaborated with acclaimed concert soloists on album recordings and live projects, blending her classical background with cinematic and contemporary aesthetics. Her compositions have been featured in recordings that highlight her sensitive writing for solo instruments, ensembles, and orchestra — reflecting a strong sense of musical storytelling.

With over six years of experience in music education — including three years working specifically with KS1–KS2 students in UK state schools — Sofia has developed a warm, inclusive, and adaptive teaching style. She finds great joy in working with young learners, creating a nurturing environment that respects each child’s individual learning journey. She also has a growing interest in music therapy and child psychology, which shapes her approach by blending musical expression with a focus on well-being, confidence-building, and creativity.

In addition to teaching and composing, Sofia also works as a sound designer and re-recording mixer, collaborating with theatre and film directors across the UK and Greece. She brings this industry experience into her lessons, encouraging students to explore a wide range of musical styles — from classical and contemporary to film music and beyond.

Sofia is committed to nurturing each student’s unique musical voice in a safe, supportive, and creatively rich environment.
