Anton Bruckner (in full Josef Anton Bruckner) was born on September 4, 1824, in the small town of Ansfelden, Austria. He was the eldest of eleven siblings and grew up in a modest household. His father, Anton Bruckner Sr., was a schoolmaster and an organist His mother, Therese Helm. Anton started his official education at his father’s school when he was six years old. He had already begun studying the organ with his father by that time. He was swiftly advanced to higher grades due to his academic prowess. He began filling in for his father as the church organist when he was ten years old.

He was sent to Hörsching, Germany, in 1835 to study with his godfather, organist, and schoolteacher Johann Anton Weiss. He wrote his first piece of music there, a sacred motet called “Pange lingua,” and was quite content. But he was forced to go back to Ansfelden in 1836 since his father’s condition deteriorated.
His father passed away from pulmonary disease in June 1837. The home they shared was given to his successor upon his passing. After that, his mother brought him to Sankt Florian’s St. Florian Monastery, where he was accepted as a choral scholar. Bruckner spent his latter years at the St. Florian Monastery. His later creative endeavors were greatly influenced by the magnificence of the upper Austrian countryside, the baroque architecture of the monastery, and the sound of his favorite organ, which became known as the “Bruckner Organ.” He successfully completed his music education in 1840 with high marks. After that, he was sent to Linz to receive his teacher training, which he finished in 1841. He began employment as an assistant teacher in a Windhaag school that same year.
During the course of his fifteen-month stay at Windhaag, Anton Bruckner composed his first mass. He had a miserable life there. He had to work various menial jobs in addition to teaching, and the income was extremely low. In addition, Frans Fuchs, his superior, continually made fun of him. He never made a complaint, although Prelate Michael Arneth was aware of the situation. He appointed Bruckner as an assistant teacher in Kronstorf a der Enns, a tiny community close to Sankt Florian, in 1843. Bruckner stayed at Kronstorf until 1845, enjoying his time there. He began his studies with Leopold von Zenetti. Additionally, he wrote more pieces at the same time, demonstrating his always-improving abilities.
